Finding Paragraph #3

Rock concerts, known for getting out of hand, creating riots, and forming mosh pits throughout the place. So what would happen if a concert got out of hand? An adrenaline rush during a concert in New York caused hundreds of fans to form a mosh pit. The Center held the concert for the first time without enough security. Due to this problem a lot of people got seriously injured (The Daily Swarm). At another concert a band hired biker gangs to stand at the front of the stage to prevent people from jumping on stage to crowd surf. One guy pulled out a gun, and started to retreat from the bikers. One person decided to chase him down, then stabbed him twice in the chest. He bled to death-- while the concert simply continued-- among thousands of fans (Weird Worm). Everybody has seen what rockers use to dress like back in the day, wearing leather jackets, open chap pants and messy hair. How does the rock n roll lifestyle effect other people? The ideal look for a rocker was the following was long hair and tight clothes, but what kind of message does this send? This inspires kids to dress out in public, which parents are deeply concerned about this happening (Crue). Parents blame bands like Korn for their child's behavior.Bands also have a tendency to dress unusual and do negative things. Parents blame the bands lifestyle for their own teens negative behavior (Social). Rock concerts can indeed get violent without the right security, it can easily get out of hand. The fans try to be like the artists so they copy their image.

Finding Paragraph #2

Rock bands often spend ridiculous amounts of money on alcohol, along with drugs. Why do rock n roll bands deal with such narcotics? The Beatles artist Sir Paul admitted that drugs influenced most of their songs. Sir Paul admitted that more then three of their songs where written about drugs (BBC News). The Rolling Stones are famous for their amount of money they spent on drugs. They knowingly influence their adult fans along with their teen fans to drink and do drugs. The Rolling Stones are one of the most influential bands out there in the Music Industry (Zaterdag). Rock is known for influencing teens to do bad things. The University of Missouri did a study, they found out that most teens who listen to rock showed a higher level of reckless behavior such as the following: drug use, unprotected sex, casual sex, drunk driving, speeding, and vandalism (Johnson). The Rolling Stones had a period of time where they would spend--ten thousand dollars a day on drugs: Not counting the severe amount of alcohol they bought. They did this for an extended period of time. Back stage they would allow their fans to have some. Of course the fan would say yes, just to get the chance to drink and smoke with the band (Reames). As you may know drugs and alcohol is one of the main causes of deaths in the United States. It causes brain cells to die, so that you may not even know what you are doing. Now with rock bands influencing teens to do drugs and alcohol, there may be an up rise in today's teen related deaths.

Finding Paragraph #1

The Music Industry has a big impact on the choices teens make today. The Music Industry is no doubt one of the biggest industries out there today. Who is affected by rock n roll? Parents are worried when their children start to listen to heavy metal bands due to the aggressiveness and explicit lyrics. When children hear this music they often like any other little child repeat what they are hearing. This worries parents deeply, that maybe their child will grow up to imitate the band (Johnson). The media and the public blame rap and rock for teen's behavior but it gives them an outlet for their problems. Music simply allows teens to calm down and logically think about things, allowing the teen to focus more instead of making quick rash decisions (SocialPC). The effects of rock music is surely outstanding, a fifteen year old boy put lighter fluid in his mouth and blew it out onto a torch to create a ball of fire, instead the boy burned thirty five percent of his body. He attempted to copy Gene Simmons off of the band kiss: Due to the influence Gene Simmons has--it nearly cost him his life (Reames). This proves rock may not always be negative. Although the boy nearly lost his life due to the influence of Gene Simmons, other teens like him use the music as an outlet to their problems. There is no denying that rock does indeed, have a bad influence on others.

Quote, Summary, Source Analysis, and Citation #5

Quote: Hard rock and heavy metal music have been causing controversy since they were first invented, and many people believe the music to have a negative effect on young people. Music featuring distorted guitars, bass, drums and loud or screaming vocals can be thought of as "hard rock," and bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest can be classified in this way. Parents are often concerned when their children begin listening to hard rock because of the aggressive sound and occasionally explicit lyrics. If you are concerned, investigate the possible negative effects of hard rock.

Paraphrase: Hard rock and metal music have been causing negative effects in teenagers. Music that has the following: distorted guitars, bass, drums, and loud music, and screaming vocals can be thought of as hard rock. Parents are worried about their children when they listen to hard rock due to the aggressiveness and the explicit lyrics. Investigate further to find out more information.

Summary of Article: "Hard Rock Music Negative Effects" is written by Lee Johnson. Rock and metal music have been causing controversies since they were invented. It says parents are worried about their children when they listen to rock because of the aggressive sound and explicit lyrics. Samuele Bacchiocchi, a theology professor from Andrews University stated that rock music can cause sexual arousal. They also found out that any type of music produces a type of strong sexual arousal in many people. A professor from Andrews University said that rock music makes people go anti-Christian. Christians have the right to express their love for God; they do that through Christian rock. Anti-Christians have the right to express their distaste through the lyrics of songs. It says all that rock music can do is expose people to different ideas. Reckless behavior is common in young children and teens who listen to rock. University of Missouri did a study and found out that kids who liked hard rock showed a higher level of reckless behavior, such as drug use, unprotected sex, casual sex, drunk driving, speeding, and vandalism. There was a suicide case involving Judas Priest which is a famous rock band. The band was blamed for an attempted suicide of a boy named Vance. The judge said that if you play the lyrics backwards, you may find subliminal messages in lyrics. He concluded that the band was not at fault.

Source Analysis: This articles claim is that rock music does indeed have negative effects on teenagers. They use pathos and logos by providing examples and the passage on the boys attempted suicide.

Quote, Summary, Source Analysis, and Citation #4

Quote: Lately though music has been criticized for corrupting teen's minds. Rap is being blamed for all the crimes and murders in cities all over America and heavy metal is being blamed for giving teens only dark images and thoughts in their minds. Although the media and public criticize rap and rock music and blame the music for influencing teens negatively, they actually give many teenagers an outlet from their life problems.

Paraphrase: Music has been criticized for teen’s negative behavior. Rap is being blamed for murders and crimes all over America. Heavy metal is being blamed dark images and thoughts in teen’s minds. Media and the public criticize rap and rock music for influencing negativity in teens: Although, they actually give many teens an outlet from their life problems.

Summary of Article: "Music Influence On Society" is about how media and parents blame their kids actions on music. The media blames rock and rap for negatively influencing teens. In this article it says that music gives kids an outlet for their problems. Parents love to blame bands like KoRn and Limp Bizkit for their child's behavior. It says that music is an excuse for bad parenting. Musicians’ lyrics are for entertaining people, not things for them to follow. "Rap lyrics do not influence bad behavior, but reflect it." They say that rock music only influences people’s decision on what to wear. Rock is blamed for giving evil thoughts to teens. I do agree with this article. I think parents do blame music on their kids’ actions. I have listened to these types of music all my life, but yet I have never done anything bad. I was raised right from wrong so I knew what to do, and what not to do. I strongly believe that if a parent raises their child right, they will not be influenced by what the lyrics say.

Source Analysis: This sources claim is that media and parents blame their kids’ actions on music. It shows logos when it provides that America blames its crime on the music industry.

Graph/Chart/Map and Citation

This graph came from a research when they compared pain raiting to the type of music the person was listening to. They connected devices to a person and analyzed their reaction to the type of music they were playing. Heavy metal caused more pain then no music at all. Classical music on the other hand calmed the person down. This shows that rock indeed does have a negative effect on people whether it is external or internal.

Quote, Summary, Source Analysis, and Citation #3

Quotation: As the show proceeded inside without incident, trouble began brewing outside. Fans that weren’t fast enough to nab tickets formed an impromptu mob and attempted to invade the venue that was already filled to capacity, leading to extensive property damage and violence. One person was even stabbed in the hand. Think about that: is there a musical act that you would stab the hands of others to see?

Paraphrase: As the show was going trouble began outside the stadium. Fans that did not get to buy tickets in time planned to invade the filled stadium. Violence was spread throughout the crowd and one person was stabbed in the hand by another fan. Is there a concert that you would stab another to see?

Summary of Article: “4 Terrible Concert Riots” was written by the screen name radmanovac. Its main point is just to show people the worse concert riots in history. Metallica was going to do a concert in South Africa on March of 2010. Sixty thousand people showed up at the Simon Bolivar Park. Fans that could not get a ticket in time rioted outside. Rumors of the riot began spreading around and fifteen hundred police officers were stationed. Guns N Roses performed in St. Louis one day when Axl saw a fan video tapping the performance. Axle dived at the man and caused a massive riot. St. Louis banned them for life and made them pay $50,000 dollars worth of damage. In 1949 Paul Robeson made comments about peace with the USSR. People labeled him as an evil communist. A group was organized to protest the concert with the KKK. Before it even started they beat down several fans. Altamont Free Concert in California, a man died due to a stabbing. A band paid a gang of bikers to stand before them to prevent stage divers. One man pulled out a gun and someone chased him down and stabbed him two times and was left to die in a crowd of three hundred thousand.

Source Analysis: The author of this article used facts and research to tell people what happened at these concerts. He used logos and pathos when he talked about all the chaos and the killing that happened at the concerts.

Quote, Summary, Source Analysis, and Citation #2

Quotation: Many revealing scientific experiments, studies, and research projects have been performed to try and discover the extent of the power of music. Up until 1970, most of the research done on music had to do with studying the effects of the beat of the music. It was found that slow music could slow the heartbeat and the breathing rate as well as bring down blood pressure. Faster music was found to speed up these same body measurements.

Paraphrase: Many experiments have been conducted to try and see the full power of music. Until 1970, the research done had to deal with the beat of the music. They discovered that slow music lowered the heartbeat, breathing rate, and blood pressure. Faster music increased these things.

Summary of Article: “Music and the Brain” written by Laurence O’Donnell is about how the brain is affected by music. When Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence he would play the violin to help him write parts he was unsure of. Albert Einstein did not do so well in school. Instead of taking him out of school they bought him a violin. He himself said he was so smart because he played the violin. Music also strongly influences your body. It can relax you and it can make your adrenaline rush. Different kinds have different reactions on all kinds of people. Not every person is the same. It is proven that classical music relaxes you and also increasing your memory and learning capability. It states that students who study music have higher grade point averages then those who do not. America’s top three schools use this to enhance their students learning capability.

Source Analysis: In this article the writer has no doubt used a lot of research. His claim is that music has different affects on people.

Quotation: A 15 year old Tampa Bay boy filled his mouth with lighter fluid & blew it out of his mouth across a torch, like Gene Simmons of KISS, & the flame came back and burned over 35% of his upper body. Rock music has been around for quite a while. Everybody listens to it at least once in their life. A lot of people don't see anything wrong with it but rock music can and does affect the minds and lives of teenagers.

Paraphrase: A 15 year old kid put lighter fluid in his mouth and blew it over a torch like the rocker Gene Simmons from Kiss. The flame came back and severely burned his upper body. Rock music has been around for a while and a lot of people see nothing wrong with it. The fact is, rock music does affect the minds and lives of teenagers.

Summary of Article: "The Effects Of Rock Music" by Doug Reames is article talking about the dangers of rock music and what previous bands are using. A fifteen year old boy put lighter fluid in his mouth and blew it out like the Gene Simmons of the band KISS. Almost half of his body was burnt due to this. Everybody has been exposed to rock music at least once in their life. Many listeners say there is nothing wrong with it but it does in fact affect the brains of kids. Musicians make millions of dollars each year, and waste it on drugs and alcohol. The Rolling Stones band spent ten thousand dollars a day just on drugs alone. Rock music can physically damage the ears of kids. Almost all of the rock and roll musicians take drugs. Somebody could walk into a concert and just feel the around of smoke that is around them.

Source Analysis: The author's claim is that rock has a negative effect on teenagers. He used logos and pathos by using the 15 year old boy example in his writing. He did a lot of research on this topic because he knows a lot of information about bands that most people do not know.

In this picture it shows a group of people in a mosh pit during a concert. They got an adrenaline rush off of the music and started going ballistic. Wordle #1

Wordle: Rock n Roll

I chose these selected words because they are exactly what rock and roll deals with. The rock industry is surrounded by drugs and alcohol. In the article it talks about the actual bands that did it themselves. I included the word volume because the loudness of the music effects how your brain processes the lyrics.

This website is very useful to me because it shows me just how extreme fans will go just to see a rock concert. When Metallica went to South America for the first time in eleven years they sold out fast. So many people wanted to watch Metallica that they rioted outside the stadium. One guy even got stabbed in the hand.

This is extremely useful to me because it was an interview with a band member named Josh Todd. He was in a couple bands before he had this interview. During the interview Josh was asked about what kind of drugs he did and how much alcohol he drank. He was very honest and I can use this information in my blog.

What I Want To Know

My overall question is if Rock n Roll has a negative effect on people; I have seen my friends and society itself change due to this type of music. My other questions will help me answer my overall question. How does the Rock n Roll lifestyle effect other people? What is the relationship between drugs and alcohol with rock music? Which one population of people are affected by this type of music the most, teens or adults? What if a concert got out of hand, how would this be handled? How is rock n roll a bad influence on people? Personally, I believe rock is fine as long as the listeners know wrong from right. If that is not the case this can seriously harm somebody; which in return may harm another person. I have witnessed and seen people change due to this music by their attire, mood, and behavior they exert and express towards others.

What I Already Know About This Topic

Rock n Roll first started in the 1950`s in America. Millions around the world love this music; even most people play it. Rock n Roll lifestyle is mainly consumed by women, drugs, and alcohol; however, that is not always the case. Most fans see what they do and copy them; this may be just what the artists want. There are several types of this music in America; one of the newer types, Christian. Most churches have changed because this sort of music to get more people’s attention. There are several ways to play this instrument; therefore, many people think there are a thousand chords to play. In fact, there are not, there are just many ways it is played. Rock music is known for being an adrenaline rusher type of music; therefore, during concerts many people get injured and hurt due to an adrenaline rush. Guitar was famous back then, now it is fading away.

The Story Behind My Topic

How many people can remember when Rock n Roll was first started in America? Many people think Elvis Presley was the first Rock n Roller; however, that is not true. There were many people before him that practiced this fine art. Does Rock n Roll have a negative effect on people? This topic is important to me because like Elvis Presley, I love music. I started playing guitar around Christmas; however, I did not start playing until late January. Guitar is a physical but yet mental instrument to learn. The only way you can get better is to simply practice. In the world of guitar there is always something new. If you just stick with it and keep pushing yourself; you will learn to love playing this musical instrument. I have put a lot of time and practice into learning the guitar; overall, I am a good player but still need practice.
